Project Update April 14/08
The construction activity on site has been quickly progressing
with the structural steel for the upper floors almost complete and
aluminum framing for the exterior windows currently being installed
along with the exterior wall framing. The main lobby roofing and
glass wall installation is ongoing along with the mechanical and
electrical work in the basement, ground and second floors.
The main entrance of Town Hall will continue to be closed while the
link is being constructed between the existing Town Hall and the new
building. Please use the wayfinding signage around the site to enter
through the current main entrance. Watch for the external
glazing/window works, which has already been started.
Visit this page again for future updates.
Construction activity - February 22 - 26/08:
From February 22 - 26, the delivery
and installation of the “coreslab” will take place for the roof of
the Town Hall expansion building. The concrete slabs range from 24
to 40 feet in length. Delivery of the coreslab will be accomplished
using large 18-wheel flatbed trucks, which will access the
construction site via King and Mary Streets. As a result, there may
be minor interruptions in traffic during this time period to allow
the large trucks to maneuver to the delivery location and drop off
their loads using cranes. Project Update- January 10/08
The construction
activity on site is continuing in full swing although a few construction
days were lost due to inclement weather. The basement floor slab has
been poured and temporary heating is in place for construction activity
on site. Plumbing and drainage services are being installed. Erection of
Structural steel for the Second floor slab is ongoing and the Basement
internal walls are being constructed.
The main entrance of Town Hall will continue to be closed while the link
is being constructed between the existing Town Hall and the new
building. Customer traffic is being diverted from the existing eastern
main entrance of the Town hall to the western entry alongside the
Mayor’s office. The basement link construction works are ongoing and
installation of Mechanical and Electrical services will commence
shortly.
During the upcoming months the Second floor core slab will be installed
and the roof steel structure will be raised, along with the installation
of the Mechanical and Electrical services.
Watch out for communications from the Town on various events and
activities as construction progresses.
Construction Activity - January 23 to
February 1/08:
From January 23 to February 1,
the delivery and installation of the “coreslab” will take place for the
second floor of the town Hall expansion building. The concrete slabs
range from 24 to 40 feet in length. Delivery of the coreslab will be
accomplished using large 18-wheel flatbed trucks, which will access the
construction site via King and Mary Streets. As a result, there may be
minor interruptions in traffic during this time period to allow the
large trucks to maneuver to the delivery location and drop off their
loads using cranes.
Construction activity — week of
November 19
Coreslab
The week of November 19, the installation of the “coreslab” begins for
the link between the old and the new building and for the northwest
portion of the expansion building. The concrete slabs range from 24 to
40 feet in length and will be used to form the roof of the parking
garage and the main floor of the expansion building and link. The
coreslab installation will allow for the closing in of the structure to
begin.
Delivery of the coreslab will be accomplished using large 18-wheel
flatbed trucks, which will access the construction site via King and
Mary Streets. As a result, there may be minor interruptions in traffic
this week to allow the large trucks to maneuver to the delivery location
and drop off their loads using cranes. Additional vertical steel will be
delivered following the coreslab installation, which means you will
start to see the building grow in height.
Mary St. West Parking Lot
The Mary St. West Parking Lot, directly across from Town Hall, is being
prepared for paving on November 15, 16 and 19. Lakeside Contracting will
complete the fine grading and two coats of asphalt.

Project Update- July 27/07
With the 3-week-old Labour strike ending on
June 25, 2007, the construction activity on site has moved into high
gear. The first major activity on site was the remediation and
demolishing of the Jailor’s residence and the Annex, which was followed
by the relocation of the air conditioning cooling tower. Both the above
activities have been successfully completed.
The current construction activities include the bulk earth excavation.
Once excavation is complete, the basement foundation works will commence
from the Southeast corner of the site working towards the Northwest. To
facilitate the construction activity, preliminary work is also ongoing
to divert customer traffic from the existing eastern main entrance of
the Town hall to the western entry alongside the Mayor’s office. The
eastern entrance will be closed for a period of approximately 12-16
weeks.
Over the next couple of months the site will be dramatically transformed
as we will see site grading, basement walls arising, site plumbing being
put into place and other such activities. Behind the scenes, the project
team is actively working on the coordination and procurement of IT, AV,
Security, and Furniture for the new facility. Watch out for
communications from the Town on various events and activities as
construction progresses.

Project Update: April 30,
2007
The Project Team and Steering
Committee were very pleased with the General
Contractor tender close on Wednesday, April
18, 2007. Upon receiving 6 of 7 bids, the
evaluation concluded with a recommendation
to award to the low bidder, Atlas
Construction. The bid received from Atlas is
consistent with the overall project budget.
On April 23, Council moved to finalize terms
and conditions with Atlas Construction in
order to finalize a contract for building
the Town Hall Expansion Project.
With construction now scheduled to commence
on site in May 2007, look for communications
form the Town outlining a ground breaking
ceremony and a variety of events and
milestones as this project moves forward
into construction.
Over the next couple of months the project
team will focus attention on coordinating
the on site demolition and excavation as
well as continue development of furniture,
fixtures and equipment details for the
overall project delivery.
Project

Upon completion
of another successful Public Information
session on January 31, 2007 the Project Team
took to finalizing the last details for
completing the construction tender
documents. On March 07 the tender was
released to our 7 pre-qualified general
contractors. With tender planned to close
in April, we look forward to awarding the
construction contract in late April with a
start of work on site in early May.
As part of
the completed tender documents, the design
includes the functional infrastructure for
Security, Audio Visual and Information
Technology.

Project Update:
January 3/ 07
The final stages of detailed design and
engineering is now nearing completion. Our
consulting team is preparing the last
details as we await results of our
pre-tender cost estimate and comprehensive
peer review of the documents. Both of those
exercises are meant to ensure competitive
pricing that will be aligned with the
project construction budget.
A Public Information Session is being
planned for later in January as we move
toward issuing our tender for the end of the
month.
In parallel with the construction documents,
the project team is developing the
requirements for furniture, audio visual,
security and information technology to
ensure the facility is efficient and
functional with the latest available
technology.
Project Update: November 21/ 06
The Project Team continues to work hard
on the development of detailed working
drawings for the Town Hall Expansion. The
Class B Estimate for construction has been
completed and reviewed by the Steering
Committee. The Consultants have been
directed to finalize the remaining drawing
details and prepare for a final pre-tender
or Class A construction estimate so we can
maintain our schedule of tender in January
2007.
The details for Security and Audio Visual
requirement upgrades to Town Hall are now
confirmed and these key areas of upgrade
will be issued for tender separately by the
Town prior to the end of 2006.
All 7 pre-qualified general contractors have
been contacted and advised of the new tender
schedule and all have confirmed their intent
to provide a bid on the project.
Project Update September 13/06:
In order to be certain that the Town
Hall Expansion detailed design and
engineering is functionally efficient and
meets the requirements of all stakeholders,
the Steering Committee authorized the
project team to continue developing the
project documentation that will now be
tendered for construction in January 2007.
Overall the benefit of tendering at this
time of year will improve project cost
efficiency by avoiding winter construction
for the structure and utilize a season in
this market that produces better tender
results.
Please review the revised Construction
Schedule for a listing of new milestones
that will take the project to a Summer 2008
completion.
Over the next few months the architect will
be detailing the project engineering with
periodic reviews and updated cost estimates
prior to tender, that will add certainty to
the project coming within budget. In
parallel the project team will develop the
specific components such as furniture
procurement, audio visual, security and IT
design.
Project update July 14/06:
Development of the
fully detailed design and engineering tender
documents continues with our consulting
team.
Most recently progress has
been made on the project otherwise with the
completion of pre-qualifying General
Contractors that will be invited to bid. As
well, definition of the Security and Audio
Visual aspects of the project are being
finalized.
Meetings with Heritage Milton and the
Horticultural Society have taken place to
ensure design is compliant with their needs.
Look for a notice of a future Public
Information Session in early August.
